Introduction

Some time ago, this community thrived but then, the website began to have an insane amount of issues that are still visible to this very day. This caused a lot of people to sooner or later disappear from this community (such as myself). As I arrived after this, I saw the aftermath. An almost dead community extremely divided and most of all, sleepy and apathetic. That's when the idea of making a blog with my fellow MyIGN members occurred to me... just like I did in the old days (check my blog's really old posts and you'll find them). I contacted some of them and I was really pleased when they replied, worked and all together, made this blog possible. I'd like to thank them all for being amazing and for being an example and a sign that this community can come back if we all stick together and work together!

Now without further ado, let's get to this blog:

The Community Blog

Every participant was asked to choose a favourite anime opening and write a small text on why the one they choose was good or what made them choose it. These were the following answers by the chronological order in which they were sent to me :

The moment I watched the opening of Outlaw Star as soon as I started watching the series was the moment that made me knew that I was in for a ride. The music is absolutely exhilarating from its strong start, to an "on-the-move" middle, and to its climatic end. As for the visuals, it may not be the flashiest opening, but it does an amazing job at consistent with the soundtrack while showing what to expect in the coming episodes. The opening is exciting, and it is truly fitting for an action-packed adventure in space.

From the first loud and powerful notes, to the soft but sharp ending, Cowboy Bebops opening theme is incredible. Just like the show itself, it is jam-freaking-packed with style and class. You get a little taste of the main four characters personalities, while also listening to an incredibly composed piece of music. If you don't watch at least one episode of Cowboy Bebop after hearing the intro theme for the first time, I don't know what to tell you. :P

My favorite anime opening is probably Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood's fourth opening theme "Period". Not only is the song a great song to listen to stand alone, but to me it shows what's going on in that point in the anime very well. Often an opening will make you excited to watch the episode, and this one does a good job of that.

I don't really have a favorite OP. But Chihayafuru's is one of my favorites. Idk what to add besides that lol. I really like the song and the anime is one of my all-time favorites, and it has my favorite female character in the entire medium, who is the main character in the show. It's a good example of how female characters in anime should be written, rather than most of them being bland eye candy.

Death Note is my favorite anime show, and both of the two openings the show has offered us are excellent, but I slightly prefer the second opening that goes by the name of ''What's Up People" by Maximum The Hormone. Why I like it? It's chaotic as hell, and it blends in perfectly with all the the chaos that's going on inside Kira's head by the end of the series. The images are quite disturbing as well, and the lyrics are... well, it's not easy to understand. However, it did make people come up with their version of the lyrics, and most of them are quite hilarious.

Sauron-Avenger

The first opening to the anime Attack on Titan, I personally feel this may have been the best thing about the show, which is saying a lot with how good the anime is. The song is incredibly high energy probably giving off the feeling you’d have actually fighting a titan and the animation of the opening which gives you a peek at the characters and situation is pretty well formed together. The song even talks almost directly why the main character of the show fights, being caged in the walls and how they will fight, while the animation taking scenes from a battle in the anime and clips of the manga even set up the battle that is, Attack on Titan. Personally the chains at the start of the opening with the anime logo is a nice touch as well considering it shows the entrapment as well.

I'm not really a huge fan of animes. There are a few ones I like, and you could call me "mainstream" for the ones I watch, but it's just that I'm not into anime in general. However, I have now been watching Naruto/Naruto Shippuden since 2006 or so, only adding Fairy Tail and Beelzebub in recent times thanks to an anime freak of a friend of mine. The opening I choose definitely has to come from Naruto, and I'm choosing the most nostalgic opening to me. I didn't watch Naruto from the very beginning, as I heard my classmates mostly talk about some awesome fights during the chunin exams, so I decided to start there just to check out what all the fuzz was about. What I saw was awesome, and this opening reminds me of how good the chunin exam event was to introduce the different characters we'd come to know. Before the exam, we had seen a few side characters, but not learned a whole lot about them. The chunin exam, though, and especially the preliminary rounds there was a perfect way to show the viewers the characteristics and fighting styles everyone had. This intro did the same. Not only is the music in itself incredibly nostalgic to me, since it takes me back a decade (HOLY CRAP!!!) to those days, but the intro also shows quite a bit of the side characters that played a big role in this period of the series, in addition to a bit of what current events would take place. The music is pretty cool, and everything is very well edited to fit the music as well, especially the parts where the different side characters get shown. This was my beginning of this anime series, and even if it's more logical to start watching from the very beginning of it, this was still an awesome introduction that grabbed me and made me interested in this amazingly long (and, admittedly, dragged) anime series.

So my favourite anime OP is Baccano!. Now it's certainly not the most artistic, thoughtful or emotional opening in the world. Even the soundtrack is a little tongue-in-cheek. But what's special about it is that it makes me smile, every single time :) The fact that it's just a simple and unassuming, almost silly opening completely nails the feel of the rest of the anime, as anyone that has seen it will know! The best thing though, is how they show glimpses of all of the characters and as you progress through the anime, you can relate to more and more of them. At the beginning, I was like "jeez there are a heck of a lot characters!" and towards the end I was like "ah there's Isaac and Miria, ohoho and Ladd Russo, and haha Jacuzzi!" Etc. Etc. Even now just hearing the starting trumpets, I can't help but smile :)

I'll pick the opening from Wolf's Rain. It's one of the few anime to have an English language song on the intro. It's an epic track full of atmosphere with lyrics matching the motivation of the central characters. On top of that the intro animation depicts the world very simply. A lonely cityscape with few people and a few animals. The show develops much more in complexity but at it's heart there's always a sense of isolation and loneliness.

It's bright, energetic, and a great example of a post-80s, pop-styled, punk-rock opening theme.

It was a very tough choice... Silhouette, Snow Fairy, there are just too many amazing openings but this one shone the brightest to me. The music kicks right in and the visuals look impressive. It then shows the character's lives: training, eating, observing the sky... Normal daily tasks, nothing out of the ordinary... The always great song plays in the background... You see the characters but then you see what these characters live for: basketball. The music begins to build up as they get ready to do what they love, what they live for (0:49 - 0:58) and then, the opening becomes my favourite opening ever. The music finished building up and goes all out. You see the players doing what they do best in an amazing visual side as the music absolutely rocks everything in the background. It shows a lot of the important characters playing and it transmits the passion they have for the game and the adrenaline infused experience that you get by watching this anime... Shame that this video cuts the final guitar riff though.
